Post to Nextdoor Check shelter website 24petconnect .com City of San Jose Animal Care & Services Help your pet smell their way home ~ take an unwashed article of the OWNER’S clothing (socks, sheet, underwear) and hang it in a tree, on a fence, a pole or edge of roof and put an article of unwashed clothing on the ground below. The wind will carry the scent. If there is another dog in the home take that dog's fresh poop and rub it on a rag and hang it high. Open your gates and/or the garage door, and turn on all the lights. Put a rug or towel on the porch with a bowl of water. Do not put the dog's bed or the dog's toys outside. The only scent we want is from the owners. Please do this ASAP. A dog can find its way back from miles by following a scent as they don't operate like humans on sight or sound. Put up flyers with large photo of your dog with legible phone number.

If chipped report to chip company as lost. Post on next-door. Check shelter. Knock on neighbors doors in the area. Hang flyers. Post on Neighbors Ring app. Place some of your dirty clothes outside your door so pup can pick up the scent.

Post on Nexdoor and Ring, report to shelter as lost and check in person. Immediately place lots of unwashed items of clothing with strong familiar scent outside your front door area and hanging fro a tree, dogs can follow the scent from far away. Replace with more as necessary. If chipped call chip company. Hang flyers all over, check with homeless people some like to keep stray dogs. Ask neighbors to check security cameras footage perhaps something useful was caught on video. Hope pup is found safe.
