Message from Owner

Fergus is a misc longhair cat with grey and tan patchy coloring and green eyes. She has been with me and my partner for awhile, we got to know her as a street cat at our last home, matted and shivering in the winter. Once unable to relax and ready to retaliate if you got too close, Fergus quickly settled in and knew we were there to protect her. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago, my partner and I went on a 12-day vacay and had to leave her home. Cat sitters saw her less frequently in the morning as this went on, and we also hadn’t seen her for breakfast for one of the days after we got back before she was gone for a first full day, but she was usually around, and would come back by lunch. We were working on getting her breakfast routine back when she left on 28 June. We are continuing to strategize how to further support her and her safety when we are reunited. She does not currently have a collar or chip, and may have some new summertime matting here and there, but she keeps herself very tidy. She loves to chat and will always engage with crinkly bags and food/treats that smell good. She prefers to be the initiator of affectionate contact, usually by rubbing up against your legs as she walks by, or jumping up to headbutt an outstretched hand. She has been doing very well in this area, always chatting to herself or anyone around, trying to teach us hopeless humans to hunt lizards, and exploring or sleeping in just about every bush in the yard. We have not seen signs of another animal taking her, it seems more likely she found a new favorite breakfast place that thought she had no home, based on the preceding behavior. Here’s to hoping. If you have any information, that would be greatly appreciated!

Create a scent station (items with your/your cat’s smell - unwashed bedding, clothing, cat tower, etc. Especially important if cat is in new/unfamiliar area. Do NOT put out litter pan as feces often used to mark territory and may inadvertently attract predators or territorial cats.). Check it often, especially when things are quiet (late evening/early morning). Leave the garage door open 5” overnight. Check nearby Ring/security cameras in the area. Check in and under everything inside and outside with a flashlight. Cats don’t usually go far and freeze in a tight ball in very small, tight, dark areas when scared. The flashlight catches their eyes’ stare, especially at night. Thoroughly check inside your home, especially if this is a new/shy/scared pet. Post on NextDoor app as it covers your local neighborhoods. Be sure to check your local animal shelter in person at least every other day (can’t stress enough - in person!!! You know your pet best plus animals constantly brought in). If your cat is not spayed/neutered, may be why it is “lost” and traveling further. Hope your pet is home safe and soon. (Note: if anyone asks for money or a code as “they have your pet,” this is a scam). https://www.pawboost.com/blog/7-effective-search-tips-for-finding-your-lost-cat/ https://petfbi.org/i-lost-a-cat/tips-to-lure-a-cat-back-home-2/

Prayers she gets home safely and stays indoors 🙏🙏🙏, for outdoor cats, there's always that "one day they don't come home"😢

Why is this beautiful cat not indoors ALL THE TIME? Did the cat sitter let her out?
