LOST INDOOR CAT will be scared & want to come inside. Night return is typical. Quickly, before it leaves to find food, crack open for 24/7 the door/window it escaped. Contain pets in another room. If it escaped from a window, place box underneath to make it easier to get back in. Turn off porch & foyer lights. It might take all night for it to come back inside. Put small amount of food/water out to keep it in the area. Their internal gps tells them where home is. No scent items needed. Sit outside in the evening, jiggle its dish with food & calmly call to eat as usually done. Wait/listen for a meow. If afraid of you, don't chase/follow in order to keep it in the area. Not everyone is on social media so inform neighbors & post laminated, readable LOST fliers with pic and phone number & "Do Not Chase" on STOP signs in a 500 ft. radius around home. They have been known to get stuck in a garage/shed/up tree. Visit local animal control. In Cobb County go to CC Animal Services intake search engine - https://www.cobbcounty.gov/animal-services/lost-found-pets. Report to and visit them - 770-499-4136.
