Dee McLaughlin Great tip, yes! The flashlight for eye shine is one of the best tricks, especially at night. Best to do it quietly at dusk or dawn, when it's calm, and just call their name softly while you sweep under bushes, decks, porches, sheds, woodpiles, any small hiding spot close to home. Scared indoor cats usually don't go far, they just hunker down.

Wonderful news, so happy for you and Penny! 🐾💚 Reunited after 4 days, 5 hours, home safe and sound. That turquoise sushi collar with the bell really helped, I'm sure.

Lots of good tips here. one other idea is to use a flashlight - look for eye shine under bushes, decks, porches, any place they could be hiding close by.

Put out something that she's familiar with that carries her scent (a bed, a blanket but NOT a litterbox). CALL FOR HER IN THE QUIET, STILL HOURS (11pm-7am). THIS IS SO IMPORTANT (5am seems to be the luckiest hour)!!!!!!! Scared cats move around while the rest of the world is still. Put out food in intervals (not at night) when you can keep an eye out. Talk to your neighbors, generally, they don't go far and find an open garage or shed to huddle down. If these suggestions don’t work: lost pet cats may not respond the way you’d expect your beloved kitty to and they may not just come to your calling so be prepared to have to use a humane trap (she will return to herself once she’s back inside) and put signs in your local pet store (if someone takes her in they will need litter and food). I hope you find her 🍀

Indoor only cats rarely will show themselves during the daytime & often will not respond to you calling them. So the chances of a neighbor or even you seeing them during the daytime is unfortunately pretty low. They hide close by, then often return during the night to where they got out of your house, & they try to get back in. If your cat is strictly an indoor cat, then if possible, try leaving the exit point open after dark to see if they will walk back in on their own. Having a camera set up outside the exit point is very helpful to alert you if they’re approaching. If you don’t have a camera at the door your cat escaped through, I recommend buying one today or tomorrow at Walmart & get it set up before dark. If you can’t leave the exit point open after dark, then you still need to set a motion activated camera outside the exit point so you will be alerted if your cat returns during the night. Often you’re sleeping & you don’t know that your cat is returning, trying to find a way back inside. If you get a sighting on the camera, then you can set a humane trap outside the exit point the following night & have it ready at dark. Either way, do not go outside once you leave the exit point open OR you’ve set a humane trap. Let the camera do the work of alerting you to movement outside that door. I don’t recommend setting food outside the exit point. You don’t want to attract wildlife & other roaming cats, which will prevent your cat from approaching. Your cat probably won’t approach your house if you’re outside walking around either. Secure any other pets in another room if you leave the exit point open. Place some of your worn clothes outside the exit point for scent & just inside the door. Do not put the litter box outside as it will attract other neighborhood cats who will prevent your cat from returning. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lC_-Dqmx2sU&pp=0gcJCWQCo7VqN5tD&ra=m
