THE STORY OF STELLA GONE MISSING Hi everybody - first and foremost I want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for all the time and effort you all put in in helping us find Stella!! To help out strangers is one of the kindest things you can do!! We are brand new to this town - we moved here from Mn about 5 months ago. So the story starts like this - we had planned to do a full day in NYC because we had our best friends in town from Mn. So trying to be responsible dog owners - we thought let’s hire a dog walker to take Stella out in the middle of the day for a walk and go to the bathroom. We found her on - she had a 5 star rating. We met her earlier in the week and she seemed just perfect - animal lover, going to vet school, etc. She checked all boxes. So we hired her for Friday for this simple task and just said come in the middle of the day whatever time is convenient for you. At approximately 4:30 she called us and said they were approached by another dog that came out of his yard (off leash) and that somehow Stella got off her leash and ran away. So we ran back to our car and b-lined it back to Morristown - a 1.5 hour drive. As soon as we arrived we all went on a frantic mission around the neighborhood to find Stella. All of our close neighbors were already looking for her - shoutout to Marta & Nicole!! We scoured the neighborhood - i walked all of our routes around the neighborhood, by the park, i even walked all the backyards on Starlight. We then drove around the neighborhood until approximately 1:30am. On my final drive around i saw a big coyote on Raynor & Hanover. I pulled up to this coyote that was just sitting on the median and we locked eyes - I was only about 15 feet away from him. I said out loud: did you eat my doggy? And he looked back at me and was like sorry man nothing personal. I was devastated. I went back home and showed the pictures to my wife and we just bawled. We were absolutely exhausted and just cried ourselves to sleep. The next morning - Saturday, we got up and posted on Nextdoor and several other apps and websites. We scoured the neighborhood all day and we stopped and talked to anybody that was out and walking around. And to our surprise - everybody was already aware of the situation and they to were looking for Stella! We did over 150 flyers in mailboxes and put laminated signs up all around the area. All of the local animal shelters & control places were not open until Monday - so it was torture to have to wait that long to call them and talk to somebody. The Nextdoor post we wrote was getting so many views and the people in and this town were so nice and giving us the sympathy and hope we desperately needed! People were helping us look, sharing the post, and even driving around looking for her!! You people truly cared and we will never forget this - it was absolutely heartwarming!! I cannot express how much this meant to our family!! We are strangers here - we don’t know anybody! I just cannot say thank you enough to you people in this town!! Unfortunately nobody had seen her since Friday night. Nothing on Saturday, Sunday or Monday. Not a peep or anything until Tuesday around dinner time - we got a call from a family 4 miles away and she said: i think your dog is under our shed!! We hopped in our car and drove to her hse. I was telling my wife & daughter: don’t get your hopes up - it’s too far; she would have never gone this far away from home. You guys it was 4 miles away!! Our regular walks are just under 2 miles and she’s always exhausted afterwards; Stella is 10 years old. We arrived and sure enough it was Stella! - she was absolutely petrified and would barely come to me. But yes, eventually she did and we got her back home. Super skinny, dehydrated & HUNGRY!! She’s doing just fine today. I’m taking her into the vet just for a quick checkup later on today. So here’s what we learned from this experience: 1. The people in and around this town are absolutely amazing! 2. She is chipped - but that didn’t really help in this situation 3. Sometimes doing the right thing (hiring a dog walker) is actually the wrong thing to do 4. Never give up hope - and expand your search FURTHER then you think is necessary Stella is not a runaway dog - she’ll just chill right in the yard all day while I’m doing yard work. With no worries of taking off. We want to thank everyone that helped us! I’ve had text exchanges with a few people and i’m inviting them and all of you to stop by this weekend on Saturday for a beer! We’ll just be hanging out all day - so come meet Stella and our family if you have a free minute or two!! THANK YOU MORRISTOWN & SURROUNDING AREAS!!! (Sorry for the longest of posts!) 24 Raynor road Sincerely- Mark, Erica, Alana & STELLA
